Description

Trauma is a term no longer associated solely with extreme examples like war, motor vehicle accidents, or assault; our culture is beginning to recognize that various forms of trauma affect most everyone to different degrees. Trauma by definition overwhelms and dysregulates the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS, which operates automatically and often unconsciously in the background of our experience, contributes enormously to our wellbeing and use of self. In this workshop we will explore how we can consciously befriend the expressions of our ANS, learn how to alter its regulation and flow, and learn how we can apply this knowledge to connecting with our students, both in-person and online. Theory and practice will draw from Somatic Experiencing® and the Polyvagal Theory in relation to principles of the Alexander Technique.
