Description

Alice Olsher certified STAT and AmSAT instructor, will talk about her experience with Dilys Carrington teaching first year trainees to direct themselves in their daily lives, in what Dilys and Walter Carrington called “Games” and in learning to put “hands on. Alice used these principles and transformed it into online postgraduate/refresher courses in 2020 . Alice is applying the quiet direction she uses in her  own life and in teaching in person and online.  In this way she gives experience  of a process to quietly use ourselves while exploring the spirals the way Dilys taught them. In the fourth term Dilys used the spirals to format a hands on group. Alice taught that group at Constructive teaching Centre for many years.

When the world shut down due to Covid 19  with Lisa First’s suggestion Alice worked out a way to give people a chance to visit or revisit quiet directing using Dilys’ spirals. This is the first principle of giving people a chance to stop and come back to themselves. The spirals have a lot to offer and are taught in many ways. In this workshop we will dip into them by using spirals but most important will be the chance for each person to come back to the quiet of their directing.

Lisa First, AmSAT certified instructor will share how she successfully and enthusiastically has integrated this work into herself as an Alexander Technique instructor in her private and group teaching for people with and without disabilities. She has also been exploring application of the Alexander Technique and the Spirals to her longtime work with horses and her teaching with instructors of the Masterson Equine Method. She will present for their annual conference in April 2021.

Lisa has had Multiple Sclerosis forty years. She will discuss her ongoing ideas, discipline and joyful process and share the means for constructive change that have developed independently and through her ongoing postgraduate study of the Carrington Spirals with Alice Osher. She will discuss the common denominators that led to her success. Lisa will share the ways that she has developed to prepare for doing the spirals every day.
