Description

What daily practices can we use, and teach our students to use that build skills of inhibition, direction and postural support? In the true spirit of Mr. Alexander’s discovery our goal should be to provide the tools for self-agency, the ability to plan and execute from ourselves rather than depending on outside influence from our environment and our teacher. Sarah explains and illustrates her teaching approach that gives students independence as early as possible and works well with remote learning.  She illustrates the basic skills that people who use the Alexander Technique need to practice independently in order to continually improve coordination and balance.

The simple exercises in this session develop physical mindfulness (the precursor to inhibition), proprioception in the spine, enhanced spatial awareness and greater tone and intelligence in the intrinsic muscular system.  After reviewing the fundamental Alexander Technique directions that can be integrated into all of our daily activities and she encourages us to explore physical activities that help us be more responsive to our conscious thoughts.
